As for other categories of employers, public transport enterprises and transport firms in the tourism sector
have felt the need to form an association in order to:

• further protect the interests of the sector in dealings with third parties take care of relations with
  Institutions and industry associations foster cooperation between affiliated companies and other associations
  at a Canton level and also nationally promote the sale of transport tickets on a cross-regional level
• support ongoing training for workers

UTPT set up in 2003 has for example made it possible to:

• coordinate promotional activities in respect of shared interests organise regulations in respect of personnel
  publish a free regional pocket timetable   manage sale of the “Lugano Regional Pass” and the
  “Locarno Regional Pass” through resellers (hotels, tourist boards, enterprises included in the approved list
  of suppliers) with subscriptions valid on public transport and transport for touristspromote the association’s
  initiatives through targeted actions and advertising organise all-day sessions dedicated to studying and training
  for workers in the road-based and in the uphill transport sector in Ticino
• organise courses for public transport drivers as part of bilateral agreements

Currently 24 enterprises holding people transport concessions and working in Ticino are members of our Association
Every year “our” enterprises turn over more than CHF 111,000,000. Over 1,000 workers handle around 350 vehicles
covering 11 million kilometres every year (275 times round the world!!) and transporting more than
33 million passengers every year.
